  The Conservation and Education Project

By May 2009 the Great Dixter Charitable Trust had raised sufficient funds to acquire the 60% share of the estate that remained outside of its ownership. This was thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Friends of Great Dixter and a number of other major donors. With a further generous donation from the Monument Trust we were able to buy Nathaniel Lloyd’s Dixter farm buildings.

At the same time, a major conservation and education project was launched to ensure the continued opening of the estate to the public and the preservation of its spectacular garden, house, collections and historic farm buildings. The project includes new education facilities, repairs to the buildings and the conservation and cataloguing of the Lutyens and Lloyd archive and the house furnishings. The work is being be carried out in a sympathetic way that ensures the sustainability of Great Dixter without compromising its essential character.

Over £6 million has already been raised. Repairs to the north front are finished. An Education Officer, Curator and Archivist have been appointed and the conversion of Dixter farm for student accommodation and a large education room has been completed.

However, £150,000 is still needed for the final stage of work and we would be grateful for further support in securing this.

There are many ways that you can help Thank you!
