This practical pruning symposium includes the following:

Lectures and workshops with head gardener Fergus Garrett will explore the following topics:

  • An introduction to Great Dixter
  • The principles of pruning, tools, timing and schedules, pruning categories for a wide variety of plants
  • Practical demonstrations and techniques for both the pruning of shrubs which flower on old wood and those that flower on new wood as well as pruning for rejuvenation, for foliage and for reduction
  • Propagation techniques, composts, greenhouses and frames
  • Coppicing, pollarding, pruning fruit and wall training

Also includes:

  • An in-depth tour of the house with an insight into how garden and house intertwine
  • Suppers in the House with time for discussion with members of the Great Dixter team
