The Great Dixter 2024 Appeal

During this year, it is hoped that lots of people who enjoy and value this very special place – whether it is the plants or the people or both – will give £24 (or more) to help it continue to reach its high standards.
Great Dixter Autumn Plant Fair

Weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October 2024 11am to 4pm The entrance fee is £16 and includes garden entry (Friends & Annual Ticket holders: free). Tickets are on sale on the gate, on the day (no advance booking). There will also be lots of refreshments for sale & dogs are welcome in the Plant Fair field.
Yesterday's Gardener

Melvin Smith will be on hand in the Great Barn talking about yesterday's gardener and showing some of the tools that were used in the process. 13th and 14th July 2024, 11:45 and 2:30. This is a free event
Pottery Demonstration

Come along and watch Alex O’Reilly throwing pots on a kick wheel. Saturday 18th May 2024, 11am-4pm in the Great Barn. Free to attend.

Opening times

The House and Gardens are open from 11am - 5pm Tuesday - Sunday (closed on Monday unless it is a Bank Holiday). Entry tickets are purchased from the Kiosk on the day - no advance booking. Dogs (apart from service dogs) are not permitted in the gardens or house, but are welcome on the wider estate. Nursery open 9am - 5pm Monday - Sunday

The Nursery

The Nursery was started by Christopher Lloyd in 1954, specialising in plants he deemed garden-worthy. We remain a small, personal and professional nursery.

Visit the Nursery

Whilst the House & Garden are now closed for the season, our fantastic Nursery is still open. Between November 2022 - April 2023, The Nursery is open: Monday - Friday 9am-12:30 and then reopens 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Saturday - 9am - 12:30 Sunday (closed) There is no entrance charge.
Cafe

The Loggia Cafe serves a delicious range of home-made lunches and refreshments. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are available. Please inform staff if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies and they will endeavour to help.

Great Dixter was the home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd (1921-2006), who developed it into a hub of ideas and connections that spread out across the world.

Now under the stewardship of the Great Dixter Charitable Trust and Christopher’s friend and head gardener, Fergus Garrett, Great Dixter is an historic house, a garden, a centre of education, and a place of pilgrimage for horticulturists from across the world.
