Plant choice and combinations: a Dixter perspective. An online symposium led by Fergus Garrett

Plant choice and combinations: a Dixter perspective

This 12-part, month-by-month online series beginning in mid January 2026 sees us going back to our roots and focussing on plants, the aim being to highlight a wide range of plants, their qualities and how we choose, use and combine them here in the gardens at Great Dixter. Each month, Fergus will discuss and analyse plants that are performing an important role in the garden, as well as interesting new introductions. In addition to the monthly lectures, there will be four live Q&A sessions throughout the year when you will have the opportunity to ask Fergus specific questions. By December 2026, you will have learned how to assess new plants and create innovative combinations in your own borders.

The course is appropriate for beginners and experts alike and will be made relevant to a wide range of climatic zones.

Led by Head Gardener Fergus Garrett, this online symposium has 12 monthly pre-recorded lectures of 60-75 minutes in length. There will be an additional 4 one hour live Question and Answer sessions.
