A September Practical Symposium – Saturday 5 September to Saturday 12 September 2026
This is a week-long practical hands on symposium, the aim being to demonstrate, explain and inspire, with a maximum of 12 attendees. 80% of the time will be outside in the garden and 20% indoors. Accommodation, meals, as well as transport to and from the hotel every day are included within the price of the course.
Lectures and workshops with head gardener Fergus Garrett will explore the following topics:
- An introduction to Great Dixter
- Great Dixter’s planting design style
- Layering and extending the seasons with companion planting
- A wide range of propagation techniques from splitting perennials, taking cuttings, seed sowing as well as potting mix workshops
- Staking and tying
- Composting and border soil improvement
- Laying out and designing borders
- Planting and marking techniques
- How to deal with self-sowers
Price: £3,850 per person. A (non-refundable) deposit of £850 is required to secure a booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before the start date of the Symposium.
