Crataegus prunifolia

The Plum leaf hawthorn. Perhaps the most ornamental of the hawthorns. A bushy, compact small tree, with ovate leaves serrated along their edge. Thorny, with small white flowers in the spring, followed by clusters of plump ruby red berries and spectacular autumn colour as the foliage turns bright orange and red. Easy to grow in most sites. Native to North America from southern Ontario down to Virginia. Some consider the species to be a hybrid. These trees are from our own seedlings. Hardy. 5x5 m.
