Plant Availability

By Mail Order

The plants we stock and sell are available at different times throughout the year, not necessarily all at the same time. When you send us a plant enquiry via a mail order form by post, a member of our staff will contact you to let you what is and isn’t available. You can now also order plants online. The stock on our online shop will be up to date.

At Great Dixter Nurseries

If you are making a long journey to visit us, it is prudent that you check with us that specific plants that you seek are available.

Postage and Packing Charges

Postage and packing charges for orders up to £100 is £10. For orders over £100 we charge £15. Please see our terms of business for more details concerning plant mail orders.

Mail Order Delivery

Nursery Plant Mail Order – Our plants are removed from their pots and wrapped in damp newspaper, bagged and tightly packed in a cardboard box for dispatch.

Plants will be sent by courier on a 72 hour signed delivery. Please read our terms of business for further information.

Reservation of Plants

We are happy to reserve plants for you to collect; just contact us ahead of time to check/confirm availability and give us 48 hours notice (not including weekends) before the day you wish to collect.

Pot sizes and prices

In general our £3.50 plants are in 9cm pots. £4.50 plants are in 10x10x11cm pots, £6.50 plants are in 1.5 – 2 litre pots and £8.50 plants are in 2 litre deep pots. But there are always exceptions and as the season progresses and plants grow, they may be potted on and thus incur a price increase.

Discounts

We offer a discount of 10% on plants for Friends of Great Dixter and Annual Ticket holders, or if you spend more than £100 (excludes mail order sales).

The garden, house and education programme cost the Trust over £1 million a year to run. Around £700,000 of this comes from visitor, nursery and event income but the remaining £300,000 has to be found from donations as the Trust receives no regular public subsidy.
