Grow
Grow is our monthly Home Ed session, taking place in the education room, garden and woods at Great Dixter.
Sessions will focus on seasonal activity in the garden and woods and include art, cooking, and science as well as a forest school approach to learning in the woods, with learners developing their own ideas and themes.
Sessions cost £20 for a family with more than one child, £10 for single child families, and include snacks which we make, materials and facilitation by education officer, Catherine.
The plan this month is to meet in the ed room at 10 and make some batter – which we’ll either use for pancakes or if there is still some Elder around then we will make some elderflower fritters (it’s in flower now so I may be pushing it!)- we’ll have a walk around the garden and do some sketching and come back and do some lino type printing with that polystyrene safe print.
We’ll then head to the woods for a fire and I think we’ll have a little play with some magic wand making – whittling for the older ones and decorating sticks with string and other bits for the little ones.
There will be coffee and tea for adults, and squash for the kids, a story for anyone who is interested and some all round free-flow fun.
The session will end at 1:30 so it’s probably a good idea to bring a packed lunch.
Please note that the paths in the woods are quite narrow and tricky with buggies: slings are preferred.
Please be aware that Great Dixter is responsible for ensuring that all sites and activities are risk assessed and fit for purpose and you are responsible for direct supervision of your children while attending this session. Future sessions are planned for:
15th July, 19th August, 23rd September, 14th October, 18th November, 9th December.
Please note, children must be accompanied to this group.
