Home Educators
We run a monthly home ed group at Great Dixter.
Sessions focus on seasonal activity in the garden and woods and include art, cooking, and science as well as a forest school approach to learning in the woods, with learners developing their own ideas and themes.
£20 for a family with more than one child, £10 for single child families, and include snacks which we make, activities and facilitation by education officer, Catherine.
The group will be mixed age.
Sessions will start at 10am and finish at 1:30.
Sessions are planned for:
19th August, 23rd September, 14th October, 18th November, 9th December.

The plan this month is to meet in the ed room at 10 and make up some courgette pancakes to cook in the woods (based on this recipe: https://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/whole-wheat-zucchini-pancakes/#wprm-recipe-container-40224) . Then we’ll have a walk around the garden and come back for a little fun experimenting with making some bath bombs.
We’ll then head to the woods for a fire and I think we’ll have a play around making some charcoal – and some children can have a go at turning this into charcoal pencils by whittling and drilling elder.
There will be coffee and tea for adults, and squash for the kids, a story for anyone who is interested and some all round free-flow fun.
The session will end at 1:30 so it’s probably a good idea to bring a packed lunch.
Please note that the paths in the woods are quite narrow and tricky with buggies: slings are preferred.
