Niwaki Sharpening Stone

The bottom of each whetstone is slightly concave and designed in such a way that it fits the convex curve of the cutting blade perfectly on all of Niwaki’s secateurs. This makes it easy to get the angle of attack correct, ensuring great sharpening results every time.

The flat face(s) of the stone are ideal for shears and topiary clippers and for removing the burr from reverse of the blade after you have used the concave face to sharpen secateurs.

They’re small enough to get into tight spots, so you can sharpen all the way along the blade, and come highly recommended by Japanese blacksmiths.

  • Soak until the bubbles stop rising before use (c.3 mins)
  • Be careful not to drop them – they will crack
  • Use the #1000 grit for a few minutes every week to keep your secateurs in top condition

Tobisho SR-1 Secateurs

Drop forged, deep in the mountains of Yamagata, from amazing high carbon steel, these secateurs combine a beautifully refined balance with a smooth, razor-sharp cut. The face of the cutting blade is slightly hollow ground to reduce friction in the cutting action, giving a cleaner, easier cut.

Tobisho SR-1 secateurs are made out of one piece of top quality Yasugi steel, from blade to handle, and combine the shape of the traditional A-Type with more modern production techniques, resulting in a light and balanced but strong pair of secateurs that are comfortable to use all day long.

    Tobisho Pro Snips Mekiribasami

Bud shears, pine snips, mekiribasami – call them what you want, these are the very best. Exceptionally fine quality hand forged steel, spring action and a chunky catch at the bottom. Red and yellow handles of Tobisho (remove the vinyl grips if you prefer the old fashioned look, but we prefer the funky colours). Used in Japan for pine pruning (some gardeners prefer the round handled garden scissors- it’s up to you) they are ideal for detailed pruning work where strength is not the issue.
