Head Gardener, Fergus Garrett on the Upper Moat.

The Upper Moat used to contain water but was drained by the Lloyds and turned into a meadow. Daisy Lloyd called this her ‘Botticelli garden’ studded with primulas and Snake’s head fritillaries. Damp meadow flowers such as Meadowsweet flourish here until the grass is cut in August. In September and October autumn flowering crocuses such as Crocus nudiflorus and C.speciosus decorate the ground.
