The Topiary Lawn

There is yew topiary throughout Great Dixter Gardens.

The Topiary Lawn has an Alice in Wonderland feel to it, particularly now that the lawn has been left to naturalise and become a meadow.

Christopher decided to stop mowing the lawn. The poor soil in this part of the garden is ideal for establishing a meadow and this area is now full of common spotted orchids, with a good balance of wild flowers and wildgrasses.

Christopher is quoted as saying, “It was a great relief when we allowed our topiary lawn to become a meadow, to be able to contemplate dandelions with pleasure instead of resentment.”
